Heart of the Matter

Day 121
It's time to get down to the heart of the matter. What is at the core of your heart? What is motivating you -- the bottom line compulsion for everything you say and do and the way you order your life?

Is it self-preservation? Trying to keep from being hurt? Trying to get approval from people? Trying in any way -- every way -- to keep yourself young, or healthy, or well-liked, or strong, or on the cutting edge of something?

If these are goals that fuel your decisions and your behavior, you are wasting time and energy. Your flesh is decaying, and everything in this world is fading away. If you wish to save your life, you're going to have to lose it!

The love of God is the real heart of all that matters. Let my love infuse your heart and replace every self-centered thing in it. Let Me into the core. I will ream out the corrosion, the impurities and the chaotic mess. I will fill you with my love, and you will be purely motivated and empowered to live life to the full.

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. -- Luke 9:24

For this world in its present form is passing away. --
1 Corinthians 7:31b

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” -- John 7:37-38

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. -- John 10:10
